As we head into 2026, I have set myself a personal goal to gently push myself outside of my comfort zone. For the past seven years, I have worked almost exclusively within my studio setting, and it has become a space where I feel completely at ease. I truly love the calm, cosy experience I am able to offer families there, and it has always felt like home to me.

But recently, something changed.

At Christmas time, I photographed the lovely Montgomerie family in their home and honestly, that session has stayed with me ever since and completely shifted my perspective on lifestyle newborn photography.

From the moment I arrived, I felt so welcome by Nicola and Chris as they settled into life with their gorgeous baby boy, Max. Their home was warm, relaxed and beautifully styled. It was effortlessly aesthetic and full of character. More importantly, I could instantly see how at ease they were as new parents in their own surroundings. There was no rushing and no pressure. Just slow moments, cuddles, feeds and those quiet newborn snuggles that pass far too quickly.

As a newborn photographer in Ayrshire, I have always loved the art of studio newborn posing. The wraps, the beanbag and the carefully styled setups will always have my heart. But photographing Max at home felt different in the best possible way. It felt personal, meaningful and real. Capturing the Montgomerie family in the space where their everyday life is unfolding added a whole new layer to the images.

I could also see just how perfect this style of session is for new mums. Especially for those recovering from a c section, adjusting to life with a newborn, or simply not feeling ready to leave the house yet. Being able to feed in familiar spots, relax on the sofa or bed, and move at their own pace makes in home newborn photography such a lovely option.

So in 2026, I am so excited to officially introduce Home Newborn Sessions as a new service.
